NANS helps candidates understand published requirements, identify authentic evidence from their own professional experience and prepare for assessment. Membership decisions and outcomes remain exclusively with the relevant professional body.

Professional qualification clarity

What do RICS, MRICS, CIOB and MCIOB mean?

Understanding the institution and membership designation helps candidates choose a route suited to their role and experience.

Institution

RICS

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

RICS is an international professional body for surveying, property, construction and infrastructure professionals. It publishes professional standards, competency requirements and assessment routes.

Designation

MRICS

Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

MRICS is a chartered membership designation normally achieved after satisfying an eligible assessment route and demonstrating the required competencies, experience, ethics and professional judgement.

Institution

CIOB

Chartered Institute of Building

CIOB is an international professional body for construction management and built-environment professionals. It sets professional standards and assesses applicants through applicable membership pathways.

Designation

MCIOB

Chartered Member of the CIOB

MCIOB is the post-nominal used by eligible professionals admitted to Chartered Membership under CIOB rules, commonly after demonstrating competence, responsibility, ethics and construction-management experience.

NANS provides independent preparation only and is not RICS or CIOB. Eligibility, admission and use of post-nominals are controlled exclusively by the respective professional body.
